Academic Advisor

Job Overview

Ivy Tech Evansville is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor to support both new and continuing students through developmental academic advising with a case management focus. The advisor will help students define their personal and academic objectives, interpret placement results, understand program requirements, and develop foundational registration skills. This role also includes directing students to appropriate support resources to promote their academic success.

Key Responsibilities

• Exhibit strong dedication to student development by advocating for students positively and adapting to their needs effectively.
• Provide developmental advising based on student development, human growth, and learning theories to help students clarify career and academic goals.
• Guide students in interpreting placement scores, curriculum requirements, and prerequisites.
• Help students grasp the college registration process and required pre-semester steps.
• Stay current with the college's programs, curricula, policies, and academic practices.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to maintain accurate advising materials for distribution.
• Manage an advising caseload aimed at improving retention, persistence, and overall student achievement through proactive communication.
• Assist in developing Individualized Academic Plans for students.
• Track student progress via meetings, communications, interventions, assessments, and data management.
• Keep advising records compliant with college standards and FERPA regulations.
• Build and sustain professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
• Engage the college community in advising initiatives through a structured communication plan.
• Promote an inclusive environment that values and respects all individuals.
• Participate in ongoing professional development, organizational activities, and institutional committees.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of various student financial aid programs.
• Further engage the community through communication strategies related to academic advising.

Compensation and Schedule

• The annual salary range for this position is between $40,000 and $45,000.
• Work hours align with typical business times but may vary during peak periods.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field is required.
• Minimum of three years experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling, or related higher education roles; alternatively, one year of relevant experience.
• Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or a related discipline. Community college experience or credentials are beneficial.
