Job description

About the Role and Organization

Save the Children is a leading global non-profit dedicated to children's welfare, working in Zambia since 1983. The Better Care for Small and Sick Newborns project focuses on decreasing neonatal mortality by enhancing respiratory care quality using bCPAP technology, improving referral systems, and increasing health workers' competencies in multiple provinces. The Project Driver supports this initiative by managing office and field vehicle travel requirements and ensuring vehicle maintenance for smooth project operations based in Lusaka.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Transport office staff and assigned visitors safely as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and good condition of all office vehicles.
  • Manage fuel accounts and perform fuel reconciliation duties.
  • Compile and submit monthly vehicle usage and analysis reports.
  • Conduct routine vehicle maintenance inspections to ensure readiness.
  • Ensure timely payments of road taxes, vehicle insurance, and fitness certificates.
  • Accurately update vehicle logbooks and maintain pro fleet datasheets for performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to sustainable practices within the supply chain to reduce carbon emissions and uphold child safeguarding policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed Grade 12 education.
  • Valid and clean Class C driver's license.
  • Certification in auto mechanics or minor vehicle repair skills.
  • CIPS certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum five years of work experience in a reputable organization or NGO.
  • Self-motivated, honest, and able to perform effectively under pressure.
