Job Summary
The Hospitality Aide supports nursing personnel by managing non-clinical resident requests to enhance personalized care. This role enables nurses to concentrate better on clinical duties.
Primary Responsibilities
- Adapt work schedule and tasks according to facility demands.
- Report directly to the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing; also take direction from nursing staff.
- Optionally attend daily nursing briefings if available.
- Distribute ice and fresh water to residents' rooms.
- Refill fresh linens or make beds when residents are out of their rooms; ensure call cords are accessible on beds.
- Maintain room tidiness, hang clothes, and keep rooms neat and orderly.
- Transport residents to dining and common areas.
- Take food menu orders from residents.
- Respond to call lights promptly without providing hands-on care.
- Address a variety of resident requests as needed.
- Deliver meal trays and assist by preparing trays, cutting food, buttering bread, etc.
- Serve drinks and pass trays during mealtimes in the dining room.
- Assist residents in transportation to and from activities.
- Supervise residents in the smoking lounge at scheduled times.
- Help clear tables in the dining area post-meals.
- Encourage hydration by providing fresh water or juice to rooms.
- Support STNAs and nurses by offering snacks and fluids.
- Communicate any changes or concerns regarding residents to nursing staff.
- Complete admission forms regarding resident preferences and property inventories.
- Maintain high awareness of safety issues consistently.
- Assist with paperwork, audits, and marking of personal items.
- Perform other assigned duties inside or outside the facility as directed.
Interdepartmental Cooperation
- Foster good relationships with other departments to ensure adequate food service and resident care.
- Create a welcoming, calm, and positive environment throughout the department.
- Report any occupational exposures to hazardous materials to the Food Services Director.
Training and Development
- Participate and assist in departmental research and projects when required.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and annual trainings on topics including Hazard Communication, bloodborne pathogens, and tuberculosis.
Resident Rights
- Respect and safeguard confidentiality of all resident information.
- Treat residents equitably with kindness, dignity, and respect.
- Ensure privacy during all nursing care activities.
- Knock before entering resident rooms.
- Report all resident grievances or complaints to nurse supervisors promptly.
- Report any suspected abuse or misappropriation of resident property.
- Respect resident refusals of treatment and notify supervisors accordingly.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Fluent in English with strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of making independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, families, visitors, and public officials.
- Willing to collaborate harmoniously with all staff.
- Demonstrates patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful demeanor; able to manage challenging resident behaviors.
- Open to learning and applying new methods to existing nursing practice.
- Effective at communicating resident condition information.
- Must not pose a threat to workplace health and safety.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Clear spoken and written English skills.
- Mental and emotional resilience for job demands.
- Sufficient vision and hearing, or use of prosthetics, to fulfill job duties.
- Independence, flexibility, integrity, and effective working relationships with residents and staff.
- Fulfillment of general health requirements, including medical and physical evaluations as per facility policy.
- Ability to relate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally distressed, or sometimes hostile individuals.
- Capability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Potential need to assist resident evacuation during emergencies.
Additional Information
This is a non-clinical position; the Hospitality Aide will not perform direct nursing functions such as feeding, physical transfers, turning, rolling, toileting, or lifting residents.
