Role overview
This full-time Grocery Clerk 4 - Stocker position is based in Windsor, Ontario, within the Grocery department. The role supports the day-to-day flow of the department while delivering strong customer service and keeping product areas organized and ready for shoppers.
Regular full-time pay is listed at $19.00 to $22.00 per hour. The schedule calls for complete open availability, with evenings and weekends required.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to customer questions promptly and provide helpful, courteous service.
- Build and maintain strong knowledge of grocery items and where they are located, including conventional, organic, and perishable products.
- Support floor inventory upkeep through merchandising, facing merchandise, rotating perishables, and pulling product forward.
- Help keep back stock at appropriate levels.
- Assist with breaking down, checking, and reviewing vendor and delivery orders.
- Store received merchandise using correct rotation and handling practices.
- Maintain attractive and accurate sales-floor displays, including signage.
- Answer phone calls and pages quickly and politely.
- Follow established procedures related to weights and measures, sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Report safety hazards and policy violations to supervisors right away.
- Complete opening, mid-shift, and closing duties as assigned.
- Attend all scheduled shifts, trainings, and meetings.
- Take on other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Retail or grocery experience is preferred.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a busy, changing environment.
- Comfortable working as part of a team and also independently with limited supervision.
- Able to follow directions and procedures carefully with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays when needed.
- Basic math ability.
- Conversational English is required when assisting customers.
- Bilingual ability is preferred.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Physical demands and work environment
- The job involves working around flour, grains, dairy, fresh produce, nuts, and other food allergens.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 10 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Requires constant standing and walking throughout the workday.
- Includes bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching, including above and below shoulder level.
- Requires hand use such as grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent to constant exposure to extreme temperatures in freezers, coolers, refrigerators, ovens, stovetops, grills, and barbeques, both inside and outside the store in all weather conditions.
- Frequent to constant work in both wet and dry conditions.
- May require use of ladders or step stools.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, including gases, fumes, and chemical agents.
- Work may involve tools and equipment such as knives, PPE, forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, six-wheel carts, balers, and similar items.
- Intermittent noise from machinery and equipment should be expected.
- Non-slip, water-resistant, oil-resistant closed-toe shoes are required.
