Role Overview and Responsibilities
This position involves leading the commercial estimation and contracts management for electrical projects within commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will oversee projects from tender submission to practical completion, ensuring quality, safety, and financial performance.
Commercial Estimation
- Develop detailed and precise cost estimates and tender proposals for various electrical projects.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to accurately define the project scope.
- Request and assess bids from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and propose value engineering alternatives to optimize project outcomes.
- Create pricing strategies that enhance profitability while maintaining competitive bids.
- Participate in presentations and negotiations with clients as needed.
Contracts Management
- Manage several electrical projects simultaneously from contract award through completion.
- Administer contracts in line with all contractual requirements.
- Track project costs, cash flow, variations, and financial reporting accurately.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and manage claims, extensions, and variations effectively.
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Project Delivery
- Coordinate resources, procurement activities, scheduling, and site operations efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and electricians to assure projects meet planned objectives.
- Monitor project progress relative to schedules and budgets.
- Promptly resolve technical and commercial challenges.
- Conduct project evaluations and apply lessons learned towards continuous improvement.
Leadership and Team Development
- Guide and support estimation and project delivery teams.
- Promote a work environment of accountability, collaboration, and ongoing enhancement.
- Contribute to business growth initiatives and foster repeat client relationships.
Health, Safety & Quality Assurance
- Ensure full compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and corporate policies.
- Advocate for safe work practices on all projects.
- Maintain adherence to electrical standards, codes, and quality requirements throughout project execution.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years experience in the electrical contracting sector.
- Comprehensive background in preparing commercial electrical estimates and tender submissions.
- Proven track record of managing electrical contracts and delivering projects successfully.
- Excellent commercial insight with strong capabilities in cost control and financial management.
- Skilled at interpreting electrical design documentation.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement expertise.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office and estimating/project management software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
