Mechanical Fitter/Turner

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter or Fitter & Turner skilled in working on rotating machinery and precision mechanical repairs to join a reputable industrial workshop based in Kawerau, Bay of Plenty. This position involves hands-on restoration, repair, and refurbishment of large-scale industrial equipment including electric motors, generators, pumps, and other rotating machines.

Key Responsibilities

• Dismantle and evaluate mechanical equipment for repair needs
• Measure and assess mechanical fits, clearances, and tolerances with precision
• Repair or replace mechanical components as necessary
• Execute manual lathe and milling tasks to produce and modify parts
• Fabricate necessary parts and components
• Work extensively with bearings, shafts, and rotating elements
• Perform quality checks on repaired and fabricated items
• Coordinate repair processes with internal teams and external subcontractors
• Maintain accuracy and calibration of workshop measuring tools and equipment

Candidate Profile

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Fitting & Turning, or a related discipline
• Proficient experience working with rotating equipment
• Sound understanding of bearings, mechanical fits, and engineering tolerances
• Hands-on experience operating manual lathes and milling machines
• Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings
• Exceptional precision measurement capability
• Strong problem-solving aptitude and keen attention to detail
• Able to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team
• Good communication skills and effective time management
• Comfortable using computers and dealing with numerical data

Experience with equipment such as electric motors, generators, pumps, or gearboxes is highly advantageous.
