Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and proactive Cleaning Operative to join our team at the Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre in Edinburgh. This full-time permanent role involves maintaining the cleanliness of rolling stock and TMC facilities to the highest standards, primarily during night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of cleaning tasks, which can differ in complexity depending on daily requirements.
• Complete all assigned work within specified timeframes.
• Ensure all cleaning activities meet rigorous quality standards.
• Maintain accurate records related to cleaning duties.
• Comply with Health & Safety policies and attend relevant training sessions.
• Participate in Hitachi Rail's centrally coordinated activities and initiatives.
• Follow company policies and procedures diligently.
• Uphold the Health and Safety policies specific to Hitachi Rail operations.
• Balance and manage other reasonable duties as required by the business.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Successful completion of a local track safety test and drug and alcohol screening to work safely within the TMC environment.
• Strong desire to be a team player contributing to outstanding onsite service.
• Willingness to learn and take pride in delivering quality work.
• Good command of the English language, both spoken and written, for effective communication and safety compliance.
• Commitment to upholding a respectful and professional team environment.
• Basic understanding of Health and Safety expectations in an operational workplace.
• Alignment with Hitachi’s values, culture, and ethos.

Preferred Experience and Training

• Minimum of one year’s cleaning experience, ideally in a similar setting; however, full training will be provided.
• Completion of BICS (Basic Introducer Course for Site Safety) training.
• Previous Health and Safety awareness training is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary of £25,029, plus a 15% shift allowance and a £3,000 location allowance.
• Permanent employment contract with stable work hours on night shifts.
