Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking a Multimedia Developer proficient in designing, developing, and debugging multimedia subsystems including audio, video, and display components on Android and embedded Linux platforms. The role involves working comprehensively across the multimedia stack—from kernel driver development to vendor HALs and framework-level modules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and troubleshoot multimedia subsystems including audio, video, and display on Android and embedded Linux environments.
  • Engage with the entire multimedia pipeline, spanning kernel driver layers, vendor-specific HALs, and framework implementations.
  • Develop and sustain Codec2 (C2) HAL modules supporting hardware and software codecs for audio and video.
  • Create and debug ALSA-based audio drivers alongside integrating audio HAL components.
  • Handle video capture and encoding/decoding pipelines using Video4Linux2 (V4L2).
  • Optimize display pipelines using technologies such as DRM/KMS, HWComposer, and SurfaceFlinger.
  • Integrate and validate hardware codecs including H.264, H.265 (HEVC), VP9 for video and AAC, MP3 for audio.
  • Utilize GStreamer for multimedia pipeline creation, testing, and application development integration.
  • Lead multimedia stack bring-up and validation on new system-on-chip platforms like Qualcomm, Rockchip, or similar.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to audio/video synchronization, latency, buffer handling, and playback consistency.
  • Collaborate effectively with SoC vendors, kernel engineers, and application developers to troubleshoot cross-layer challenges.
  • Profile and tune system performance using diagnostic tools such as Perfetto and systrace.
  • Produce clean, maintainable code primarily in C and C++, contributing to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repositories.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation covering technical designs, debugging insights, and architecture of multimedia stacks.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated expertise in Android and Linux multimedia frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in C and C++ with deep knowledge of low-level system development.
  • In-depth understanding of ALSA for audio, V4L2 for video capture and decode, and DRM/KMS for display subsystems.
  • Familiar with Android Codec2 (C2) HAL patterns and MediaCodec framework.
  • Practical experience with video/audio codec standards including H.264, H.265, VP9, AAC, and MP3.
  • Proficient in GStreamer pipeline design and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of AOSP build environment and HAL/kernel driver development processes.
  • Experience with embedded platforms such as Qualcomm, Rockchip, Raspberry Pi, or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Android graphics stack components including SurfaceFlinger and HWComposer is desirable.
  • Strong debugging skills leveraging tools like Perfetto, logcat, dmesg, gdb, and strace.
  • Excellent communication abilities and aptitude to collaborate across hardware and SoC vendor teams.

  • Education Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering or Technology in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
