Overview
The City of Kitchener is currently seeking a strategic and people-oriented Fire Chief to enhance the Fire Department’s status as a leading provincial entity in fire operations, service delivery, team growth, and the fostering of a collaborative and respectful workplace culture.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Fire Department's Senior Leadership Team, providing mentorship, strategic direction, and guidance to over 250 personnel across seven fire stations, soon expanding to eight, all managed within an annual budget of $44 million.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic leadership and oversee fire service initiatives within a municipal government structure.
- Facilitate collaborative decision-making by engaging a diverse array of staff and stakeholders.
- Maintain and cultivate positive relationships with internal stakeholders including City Council, Corporate Leadership Team, Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, and the Kitchener Professional Fire Fighters Association, as well as external partners such as neighbouring fire departments, regional police, and paramedic services.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of a three-year degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
- At least ten years of progressive leadership experience within the fire service.
- Demonstrated ability as a compassionate mentor and coach, fostering individual development and team accountability.
- Proven record of personal responsibility and cultivating a culture of excellence and accountability.
- A strong dedication to public service and passion for advancing team success.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and is based onsite in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
