Role Overview
The Senior Manager - Category Operations will oversee and enhance daily operations for Porter's HSC business covering multiple vehicle categories (such as Outstation - FTL, Intracity - 9ft, 10ft, 14ft, 17ft) for the Delhi and Kolkata regions. This position requires strong leadership, operational execution, team management, data-driven decision-making, and an understanding of ground-level operational realities.
Responsibilities
- Manage everyday operations across various business verticals ensuring disciplined execution.
- Forecast demand and plan supply while maintaining quality and operational standards.
- Organize and lead city teams for effective on-ground operation implementation.
- Assist in launching SOPs and go-to-market strategies for new categories and processes.
- Identify gaps in operational efficiency and collaborate with Product, Analytics, and Central teams to drive improvements.
- Ensure compliance with quality benchmarks, turnaround times, and outstanding user experiences.
- Lead geographic and category expansion efforts alongside cross-functional partners.
- Oversee P&L responsibilities for assigned categories in partnership with business co-owners.
- Develop and implement strategic objectives to drive growth.
- Monitor market trends regarding pricing, competition, and service levels to shape short- and medium-term strategies (1 day to 6 months).
- Apply detailed understanding of micro-market dynamics and routes to tailor growth and customer experience strategies.
- Facilitate resolution of escalations, recognize recurring issues, and promote long-term corrective actions.
- Establish governance frameworks to ensure operational oversight at the city level.
- Define and communicate a clear operational vision and roadmap promoting business excellence.
- Guide multi-city teams through structured planning, communication, and performance management.
Skills and Competencies
- A hands-on leader with a strong bias for action and willingness to engage deeply to resolve core issues.
- Proven experience managing teams, particularly Assistant Managers and their direct reports.
- Excellent communication skills capable of influencing senior leaders and on-ground staff.
- Strong data literacy and ability to integrate field intelligence into decision-making.
- Capability to create and implement standard operating procedures and processes.
- Preferable experience in logistics, mobility, supply chain, or marketplace operations.
- Familiarity with category management combining strategic planning and operational execution.
- Adeptness in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management.
