Overview
This role involves developing and enhancing training programs for a significant next-generation energy project based in Canada. The Instructional Technologist will design structured and compliant learning solutions for plant personnel, integrating instructional design principles with technical understanding and regulatory compliance. Collaboration with engineering teams, project stakeholders, leadership, and external bodies will be essential to create quality training frameworks that support workforce readiness and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and refine training programs, processes, and materials adhering to regulatory standards, company policies, and industry guidelines.
- Develop strategies for initial accreditation and maintaining the long-term success of training initiatives.
- Apply the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) methodology to create and update comprehensive learning curricula.
- Revise training content in response to plant design changes, operational improvements, technical updates, and procedural modifications.
- Collaborate closely with management, emergency response, regulators, project partners, and internal units to improve training effectiveness.
- Establish robust assessment methods including exams, evaluations, classroom and laboratory exercises, on-the-job training tools, and simulator assessments.
- Develop processes for trainee performance reviews, counseling, and personalized learning pathways.
- Integrate industry insights, regulatory changes, operational experiences, and internal feedback into training materials.
- Assist with preparation for regulatory audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and compliance evaluations.
- Maintain comprehensive and audit-ready training documentation, records, and reports.
- Support department leadership with planning, objective setting, resource allocation, and budgeting.
- Foster a culture emphasizing quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across training efforts.
Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, training, or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience in training development or instructional technology, preferably in regulated or technical industrial settings.
- Proven ability to develop training programs compliant with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Strong knowledge of digital learning content creation and delivery techniques.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional skills in technical writing, communication, presentation, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Attention to detail with a commitment to producing precise, high-quality training resources.
- Adaptable to changing project demands, operational updates, and priority shifts.
- Experience with maintaining standards, stakeholder influence, and championing continuous improvements.
- High integrity, professionalism, teamwork, and open communication abilities.
- Understanding of organizational impacts of individual decisions, regulatory compliance, and public safety considerations.
- Experience in nuclear, energy, engineering, or comparably complex technical environments is highly advantageous.
