Job description

Position Overview

Located at Regents Park Barracks in London, this role supports the Quartermaster within 20 Transport Squadron RLC, a unit responsible for transport support across London and Windsor. The team manages stores, infrastructure, accommodation, security, and administrative tasks across multiple military properties. The position offers exposure to a diverse set of functions including facilities management, health and safety, security, and stores accounting in a dynamic military environment. It is full-time (37 hours per week) with an expectation to be onsite at least three days weekly to enable effective team collaboration and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Quartermaster in overseeing Health & Safety, Environmental Protection, and statutory compliance. This includes preparing and distributing health and safety documentation, monitoring adherence to MOD policies and regulations, and following directives from the Officer Commanding.
  • Serve as the main liaison for accommodation matters, coordinating with residents, contractors, security, and infrastructure partners. Manage accommodation bookings and oversee the process of personnel moving in and out.
  • Handle the management of infrastructure and maintenance issues by reporting faults, tracking progress, coordinating actions, attending meetings with contractors and agencies, and providing updates and recommendations.
  • Deliver broad administrative support for the Quartermaster Department, including managing correspondence, responding to calls and emails, record-keeping, and supporting decision-making processes to ensure timely and accurate departmental output.
  • Represent the Quartermaster at meetings when required, on-site or off-site, recording minutes and maintaining documentation within prescribed deadlines.
  • Support stores management through use of Defence IT systems: receipt and issue of stores, stock accounting, coordinating write-offs and loss procedures, and ensuring effective asset control.
  • Assist with security functions across military premises, including support for CCTV administration and enforcing security protocols.
  • Coordinate and escort visitors and contractors, ensuring compliance with site security and serving as a knowledgeable and professional point of contact.
  • Provide flexible support to the Quartermaster team across all areas, including stores, offices, and accommodation, offering guidance, supporting housekeeping, and contributing to smooth daily operations.

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team orientation and leadership capabilities to effectively contribute to the Quartermaster’s team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Capability to manage workload proactively, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing demands.
  • Analytical skills to assess situations, identify problems, and develop practical solutions.
  • Previous experience in a Quartermaster or related role is advantageous but not mandatory; comprehensive training will be provided.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary of £30,740 plus employer contribution of £8,905 toward the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

Additional Information

  • The role does not provide relocation expenses.
  • New civil service employees undergo a six-month probationary period.
