Regional Capability Trainer – Western

Role Overview

The Regional Capability Trainer will lead practical, hands-on training and mentorship activities focused on engine products within a service workshop environment. This position is vital to growing the technical abilities of apprentices and junior technicians, primarily located in Perth but with occasional travel to regional sites as required.

Main Duties

• Deliver direct, in-person coaching on the use of workshop equipment, measurement tools, and safety procedures for apprentices.
• Demonstrate best practices in dismantling, inspecting, and rebuilding engine components, using real workshop scenarios.
• Guide apprentices through identifying mechanical faults and understanding common failure modes.
• Utilize practical sessions and actual customer cases to cultivate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Track and support apprentice development using standardized tools and provide feedback for capability reviews.
• Customize coaching approaches based on individual apprentice needs and workshop feedback.
• Work closely with branch leadership and technical staff to ensure apprentices are gaining required competencies.
• Travel occasionally (<10%) to provide on-site coaching at regional branches depending on business needs.

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, adaptive manner.
• Focus on fostering an environment that supports apprentice confidence, development, and shop etiquette.
• Develop and deliver engaging technical demonstrations such as precision measuring and problem-solving exercises.
• Use of diagnostic software and electronic service tools for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Document workshop activities and apprentice performance into business systems for historical tracking and payment processes.
• Champion safe work practices and contribute to a safety-focused workshop culture.

Qualifications & Licensing

• Completion of apprenticeship as an engine technician (preferred).
• Vocational diploma from a recognized technical institution in a related discipline.
• Local driving license (preferred).
• Ability to comply with any export or sanction regulations as needed for the role.

Experience

• Significant experience in engine diagnostics, service, and repair (advanced level).
• Proven experience providing technical training or guidance to junior staff or apprentices (preferred).

Additional Information

• Role is classified as 100% on-site and cannot be performed remotely.
• Relocation support is available if required.
• Occasional travel to other branches as dictated by apprentice development needs and program requirements.
