Role Overview
Join the Royal Mail team as a Postperson based at Rye Delivery Office (TN31 7AA) on a 12-month fixed-term contract, delivering letters and parcels locally. This role involves a mix of driving a Royal Mail van and on-foot delivery, connecting you with the community while staying active.
Working Hours and Salary
You will work 35 hours per week on a rotating shift across Monday to Sunday, typically from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, including some weekend shifts. Sunday work will take place at Ashford Delivery Office. This position pays £13.68 per hour, with paid monthly wages and opportunities for paid overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Sorting mail and parcels at the delivery office
- Delivering post via van and on foot within your assigned local area
- Fostering good relationships with customers
- Working outdoors in various weather conditions
What to Expect
- Physically demanding and fast-paced work involving walking up to 12 miles and climbing stairs or hills
- Daily operation of a Royal Mail van
- Handling and timely delivery of letters and high volumes of parcels, especially during peak periods
- Working independently with a structured routine offering variety
Candidate Profile
- Holder of a full manual UK driving license with no more than six penalty points, matching current name and address
- Comfortable daily driving of a Royal Mail van and able to pass a driving assessment
- Physically fit for walking long distances and carrying mail bags weighing 10kg or more
- Reliable, self-motivated, organized, resilient, and customer-focused
- Able to work outdoors and independently

Additional Information
The role requires secure handling and delivery of all route items, including election materials and certain products such as food and alcohol, in compliance with Royal Mail standards. Note that although listed as full-time (35-37 hours), contracts under 37 hours may be classified as part-time.
