Role Overview

Join Townsville City Council's Planning, Environment and Lifestyle division as a Planning Officer, where you will contribute to shaping the city's future through strategic city planning and development assessment. This role involves collaborating with planners and technical specialists to achieve sustainable land use outcomes, support diverse planning projects, evaluate development applications, and engage various stakeholders. It offers opportunities across multiple planning disciplines suitable for different career stages.

Position Details

  • 2 openings: one Permanent Full-Time and one Fixed-Term Full-Time (Aug 2026 to Mar 2027)
  • Work schedule: 9 day fortnight, 36.25 hours per week
  • Location: Townsville, Queensland, Australia
  • Salary Grade: LGO4-5, ranging from 86,720 to 99,181 AUD per annum plus superannuation, adjusted by skills and experience

Candidate Profile

Applicants should be qualified or pursuing qualifications in urban planning, passionate about fostering sustainable and livable communities. Both emerging and experienced planners with solid understanding of planning principles, strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are invited to apply. Experience with development assessment, strategic or local government planning and ability to interpret planning laws and prepare professional reports are highly valued.

The successful candidate will thrive in collaborative environments, solve complex issues, and balance competing demands to deliver practical outcomes aligned with community needs.
