Field Operator

Position Overview

The Field Operator is charged with overseeing daily onsite activities at the plant, working to ensure that all operations meet required standards for performance, reliability, efficiency, and environmental compliance. This includes handling the start-up and shutdown of equipment, regular changeovers, and responding effectively to alarms and emergency situations. The role demands practical familiarity with modern gas turbine and desalination technologies, as well as auxiliary systems.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

• Strictly adhere to integrated management systems, safety, and environmental protocols while conducting all operational duties.
• Monitor ongoing maintenance tasks within assigned zones for compliance.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions and practices.

Plant Operations & Maintenance

• Execute routine inspections, document findings, and complete operational logs.
• Perform operational tasks as directed by the Control Room Operator (CRO), such as operating valves, managing pumps, and addressing alarms to correct or prevent irregular plant behaviour.
• Prepare the facility for start-up and facilitate both standard and emergency shutdown procedures according to established guidelines.
• Apply safety rules to safely isolate and reintegrate plant systems during maintenance, handle equipment restoration, and conduct plant site dewatering and chemical management.
• Perform standard plant maintenance, including lubricant top-ups and filter replacements.
• Provide analytical support for plant water and chemical samples when required.
• Support the CRO during emergency responses and maintain plant safety and housekeeping standards.

Reporting & Communication

• Initiate service requests and work closely with Shift Engineers on defect reporting and work order approvals.
• Liaise daily with CRO and maintenance teams to coordinate both routine and emergency actions, following official handover and communication protocols.

Quality and Compliance

• Ensure the quality of output water aligns with WHO and specific contract standards.
• Maintain thorough completion of log sheets, data entries, and operational documentation as established by KPIs.
• Participate in audits, incident reporting, and ongoing training for continuous improvement.
• Uphold accountability for chemical management, water chemistry standards, and staff development, including completing skills assessment matrices and mentoring juniors.

Other Details

• The Field Operator functions under guidance from the Control Room Operator and escalates exceptional or out-of-policy cases to supervisory staff for further direction.
• Part of the GBU Renewables & Flexible Power business unit, operating under ENGIE Saudi Arabia.
