Consultant - Product Development

About the Role

Joining as a Consultant in the Product Development focus within McKinsey & Company's two-year Operations Excellence Program (OEP), you will tackle challenging client engagements and help companies enhance their operational effectiveness. This position is based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, within the Operations Practice, which combines strategic insight and practical execution to empower clients in achieving operational excellence.

Our Product Development service line assists clients in creating products suited to market demands, ensuring profitability, enabling platform development for future additions, and strengthening brand reputation for sustained growth. Your work will involve crafting and implementing strategic initiatives to elevate innovation and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on client projects as a core team member, engaging in problem identification, hypothesis development, analysis, and recommendation synthesis.
• Develop advanced operations and consulting competencies through hands-on coaching and structured developmental programs.
• Participate in comprehensive functional training under operations experts, covering operations themes and specializing in an operational area such as product development.
• Contribute innovative ideas and ethical, practical solutions that drive meaningful improvements for clients.
• Embrace European assignments requiring mobility during the workweek.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possession of a Master’s degree accompanied by outstanding academic achievements.
• Early experience related to product development, including activities such as product optimization, value analysis, leading research & development initiatives, or managing technical suppliers.
• Documented leadership experience in professional roles and/or extracurricular involvements.
• Exceptional analytical abilities and quantitative problem-solving expertise.
• Proficient communication skills, able to clearly convey complex concepts both orally and in writing, in English and the local office language.
