About the Role
Join DHL Global Forwarding, a leading division of DHL Group operating across more than 220 countries, specializing in air, ocean, and road freight solutions. As an Import/Export Operations Specialist based in Kampala, you will take complete ownership of the import and export process, managing end-to-end product flow and ensuring seamless operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and nurture lasting relationships with existing customers to sustain their business.
- Address customer complaints and inquiries promptly, escalating issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Provide timely updates to clients as agreed upon during their onboarding process.
- Deliver exceptional customer service with urgency and professionalism.
- Assist the Head of Products with new system implementations, updates, and upgrades in CW1.
- Coordinate the movement of shipments from customer pickup to delivery or handover to shipping lines for exports.
- Arrange bookings with carriers and document booking information in CW1 remarks.
- Support the Global Service Center by managing assigned activities and maintaining well-organized files.
- Collaborate with the CDZ team to prepare customs declarations and facilitate clearance processes.
- Complete and verify export documentation, ensuring accuracy before submission to shipping lines.
- Manage Master Bill of Lading (MBL) and House Bill of Lading (HBL) processes following standard procedures.
- Track shipments until successfully delivered.
- Send pre-alert notifications to customers.
- Generate invoices and close shipments in CWI upon readiness.
- Upload all shipping documents into the CW1 electronic document system.
- Update all shipment milestones in adherence to set deadlines.
- Resolve any issues with shipments (“sick files”) and ensure case closure.
- Follow up with customers to gather feedback and share best practices.
Candidate Requirements
- Familiarity with OFR/RFR export and import products.
- Strong negotiation and effective communication skills.
- Result-driven mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of customs regulations.
- Ability to work promptly and reliably.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Possession of a university degree is mandatory.
- EAFFPC certification will be considered an advantage.
- Experience with Cargo Wise software preferred.
