Job Overview

The Shipping Manager is responsible for leading daily shipping and packaging activities within a warehouse distribution setting. This role oversees the Shipping Department team to guarantee orders are correctly packed and dispatched timely, all while adhering to customer expectations and compliance standards.

Key Duties

Manage and direct daily operations of the shipping department.
Supervise, train, mentor, and assess performance of shipping staff.
Ensure accuracy in packing, labeling, and timely shipment of orders.
Maintain compliance with R2, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 protocols.
Monitor shipment metrics such as weight, cost, damages, and discrepancies.
Investigate and resolve issues related to late, damaged, or incorrect shipments.
Verify inventory accuracy during packing and identify causes for discrepancies.
Implement improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and productivity.
Keep detailed warehouse operation logs and documentation.
Engage in Health & Safety Committee initiatives.
Conduct performance reviews and manage improvement plans for staff.
Collaborate with organizational leadership and internal teams to support overall operations.

Qualifications and Skills

Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
Strong problem-solving and operational analysis aptitude.
Knowledge of and compliance with hazardous materials (Haz-Mat) shipping regulations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for managing all employees in the Shipping Department including recruitment, training, performance management, and scheduling.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is primarily in a warehouse setting with some exposure to outdoor conditions.
Use of office equipment and warehouse tools such as computers, pallet jacks, forklifts, and ladders.
Physical demands include regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally over 100 lbs.

Schedule and Additional Details

Working hours are generally 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
May require occasional evening or weekend shifts.
Some travel may be necessary.
Experience: Prefer candidates with 5 or more years in warehouse shipping and receiving.
Familiarity with shipping or transportation software (e.g., UPS) desired.
Willingness to work up to 45–50 hours in a week when needed.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and have proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
