About the Role
This opportunity is with a partner organization seeking a Senior Communications Manager focused on Technical Assistance, based in the United States. The role centers on developing strategic communication initiatives that support health equity and foster community-driven change. It involves partnering with organizations to craft compelling narratives, comprehensive campaigns, and communication strategies aimed at influencing policy discussions and public engagement.
The position employs a mix of advocacy, storytelling, media relations, and digital communication to simplify complex health system topics into clear, impactful messages. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on implementation, assisting partners during critical, time-sensitive projects. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders is key to enhancing communication capacity and amplifying community voices.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with state and community groups to design communications strategies that align with policy, advocacy, and campaign goals.
- Create narrative frameworks and messaging approaches that reinforce community priorities and support sustainable change.
- Offer direct communications guidance to partners throughout planning, execution, and iterative adjustments of strategic initiatives.
- Convert complex health policy, healthcare system, and safety-net issues into accessible information for the public, patients, and advocacy groups.
- Facilitate ethical storytelling by integrating lived experiences with research, data, and policy insights.
- Develop and execute earned media strategies, digital campaigns, written materials, and creative content.
- Coordinate with internal communications teams and external vendors to ensure quality, consistency, and timely project completion.
- Manage multiple technical assistance projects, maintaining alignment with strategic goals and grant conditions.
- Monitor communication outcomes, analyze performance metrics, and apply insights to optimize future strategies.
- Document lessons learned and contribute to the organization's collective knowledge on effective communications support.
- Establish and nurture relationships with partners, funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
- At least six years of experience in advocacy communications, campaign communications, public affairs, or within communications agencies.
- Proven ability to support campaigns, coalitions, or partners through communication initiatives focused on measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in earned media strategies, including maintaining media relationships and placement of opinion pieces.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling capabilities to deliver engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
- Skilled in conducting interviews and developing content strategies that transform complicated information into captivating stories.
- Experience in evaluating communication impact, reporting against strategic objectives and grant requirements.
- Strong project management proficiency to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines in dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards such as Section 508 compliance and plain language principles.
- Experience using accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Accessibility Checker, Microsoft Accessibility Checker).
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively across teams and with partner organizations.
- Passion and alignment with health justice, racial equity, and community-centered system transformations.
- Experience communicating intricate healthcare topics such as Medicaid, medical debt, caregiver policy, or similar public health concerns.
- Knowledge of digital communication platforms, design tools, advocacy technologies, media monitoring, or campaign software is advantageous.
