Job description

About Learning Network

Learning Network is an expanding and innovative educational service provider dedicated to delivering superior customer care. The company emphasizes thorough, reliable service; honoring commitments is a core value. Employees work in a collaborative and drama-free environment valuing teachability, relationship building, and excellence.

Role Purpose

The Student Success Mentor supports students who have disengaged academically or personally by forming strong relationships, offering encouragement, and providing proactive interventions. This work helps students reconnect with their education and build resilience and habits for future achievement in diverse post-graduation paths.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish meaningful, supportive, and empowering connections with students to boost their confidence and capabilities.
  • Consistently monitor student participation, attendance, communication, and academic progress, identifying early warning signs and initiating timely help.
  • Collaborate with students, families, educators, and support staff to remove obstacles and develop tailored plans for student success.
  • Provide motivation, follow-through, and accountability to help students cultivate confidence and lifelong learning habits.
  • Maintain professional, empathetic interactions with students, families, and colleagues, providing personalized support.
  • Use multiple communication channels—phone, text, email, video conferencing—to engage students and families regularly.
  • Track and evaluate key indicators daily, including attendance and assignment completion, promptly addressing issues.
  • Identify and address academic, emotional, social, or environmental challenges impacting students, designing individualized solutions collaboratively.
  • Partner closely with educators, special education staff, administrators, and student support teams to coordinate effective intervention efforts.
  • Help students define academic and personal goals and cultivate necessary persistence and confidence to achieve them.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of student contacts, interventions, and progress to ensure support continuity.
  • Recognize and escalate urgent safety or mandated reporting concerns in accordance with policies.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and collaborative problem-solving activities.
  • Support student enrollment and retention by assisting families throughout the educational journey.
  • Fulfill additional duties as required to advance the organization's mission.

Working Hours and Expectations

  • Consistent full-time schedule: 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Mountain Time year-round, adjusting for daylight savings.
  • A minimum of 40 focused work hours weekly during scheduled hours, with immediate availability via phone, chat, Zoom, and email.
  • No multitasking or outside work during these hours without prior written approval; must maintain a distraction-free, professional home office with reliable internet capable of video conferencing.
  • Consistent daily attendance is crucial; absence beyond two consecutive instructional days disrupts student support and is typically not allowed during instructional periods.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Motivated by the opportunity to serve as a steady and encouraging adult influence for students facing life challenges.
  • Skilled at building genuine relationships that foster confidence and measurable growth.
  • Exemplifies high standards, responsiveness, and personal accountability for student success.
  • Values collaboration with families and educators to implement impactful change.
  • Thrives in structured, metrics-driven environments emphasizing clear expectations and accountability.

Unsuitable Candidates

  • Those seeking highly flexible, self-paced schedules or minimal direct interaction with students or parents.
  • Individuals uncomfortable with regular outreach, responsiveness, or structured performance monitoring.
  • Persons intending to combine this role with other employment.
  • Individuals reluctant to adhere to oversight, performance tracking, or structured accountability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, able to empathize and engage professionally.
  • Ability to build rapport, secure commitment, and adapt communication techniques.
  • High self-motivation, responsibility, and discipline to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Proficient active listening, problem-solving, conflict management, and relationship development skills.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable addressing sensitive social-emotional issues and complying with mandated reporting.
  • Familiarity with Mac OS, Google Workspace, learning management systems, and task management tools such as Asana; quick technology adaptation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for assigned testing supervision duties.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related fields.
  • Required: Minimum two years of experience supporting students or families in professional environments.
  • Required: At least two years of experience working directly with students in mentoring, counseling, or support roles.
  • Preferred: Experience improving student engagement and success through relationship building.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of student information systems, Google Workspace, Mac OS, and collaboration platforms.
  • Required: Ability to pass background checks.

Benefits

  • Affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance options (as low as $1 monthly).
  • Personal paid time off in addition to major holidays.
  • Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with dollar-for-dollar employer matching up to 6% of earnings.

Compensation

Hourly base pay ranges from $21 to $23 USD.
