Role Summary
The Senior Asset Planning Engineer will formulate, refine, and oversee maintenance and asset management plans aiming to enhance asset reliability, availability, safety, and lifespan value. This role ensures efficient planning, scheduling, resource use, and material readiness to support preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance across operational facilities. Serving as a critical link between Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Procurement, Warehouse, and Contractors, the engineer facilitates safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance aligned with organizational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain both long-range and immediate asset maintenance strategies and schedules.
- Create maintenance plans annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily aligned to operational goals.
- Oversee preventive, predictive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance initiatives.
- Evaluate maintenance requests, prioritize them, and translate approved tasks into executable work orders.
- Continuously enhance maintenance task lists, job plans, standard instructions, and procedures.
- Plan maintainability for static, rotating, electrical, instrumentation, and utility assets.
- Prepare comprehensive maintenance work packages detailing scope, required resources, schedules, materials, equipment, permits, and execution strategies.
- Develop coordinated maintenance schedules using SAP PM, Primavera P6, and other tools.
- Manage planning activities including daily, weekly, monthly, and 90-day outlooks, optimizing maintenance periods and downtime.
- Track adherence to schedules and enforce corrective actions on overdue or critical maintenance tasks.
- Contribute to reliability improvement by analyzing equipment performance and failure patterns, and participate in root cause and failure analyses.
- Partner with Engineering and Reliability teams to adjust preventive maintenance intervals and strategies.
- Identify ways to enhance equipment uptime, minimize downtime, and improve lifecycle outcomes.
- Ensure maintenance planning meets regulatory compliance and operational integrity standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional certifications in Maintenance Management, Reliability Engineering, Asset Management, or Project Controls are advantageous.
- Membership in professional engineering bodies is preferred.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in maintenance planning, asset and reliability management, or turnaround planning, particularly within Oil & Gas, LNG, GTL, Petrochemical, Refining, Power, or similar industries.
- Experience in supporting routine maintenance as well as major shutdown and turnaround projects.
- Familiarity with asset integrity and programs aimed at bolstering reliability.
- Exposure to operational and brownfield facility environments is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Proficient with SAP PM and MM modules.
- Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.
- Knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling.
- Competency in preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Understanding of asset lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Risk-Based Maintenance (RBM) practices.
- Skilled in work management processes and Primavera P6 software.
