Relationship Manager, Agribusiness

About the role

Absa Group is hiring a Relationship Manager for Agribusiness in Tanzania. The role focuses on expanding the asset financing portfolio, originating new business, assessing credit applications from branches, shaping asset financing propositions, and making sure approved loans are booked with strong quality.

Business growth

• Expand asset financing volume and value by spotting and building new commercial opportunities.
• Work with clients, dealers, suppliers, government bodies, insurers, and other financial institutions to protect the Bank’s interests.
• Partner with branch teams and Head Office colleagues to grow the asset financing portfolio.
• Coordinate with internal departments to deliver approved asset financing deals and related propositions.
• Stay current on Tanzania’s asset financing market, customer needs, and financing demand for vehicles, equipment, machinery, and other eligible assets.
• Prepare business cases and proposals, and track portfolio development over time.
• Keep customers informed about asset financing products, fees, and pricing.
• Contribute leadership to the development of asset financing strategy.
• Guide branch teams in handling stressed asset financing exposures.

Product development

• Collaborate with the Product Development team to design new asset financing products and propositions.
• Maintain the asset financing product catalogue.
• Review monthly product performance reports to understand results and identify improvement opportunities.
• Work with the Product team to periodically reassess pricing so offerings remain competitive.

Risk management

• Handle asset financing queries and provide information needed for internal and external audits.
• Ensure every engagement follows asset financing guidelines.
• Monitor asset financing loan performance each month and advise branches on fast action for delinquent accounts.
• Work with branches to ensure all approved loan terms and conditions are properly followed.

Education and experience

The employer is looking for a candidate with a first degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering, or another relevant field. A minimum of three years’ experience in asset financing, credit, relationship management, or a related banking area is required. Practical exposure to vehicle, equipment, machinery, and other movable asset financing structures is important, along with a strong record in deal structuring, business negotiation, and collaborative execution.

Skills and knowledge

The position calls for strong sales, negotiation, and presentation ability, plus solid business analysis and credit assessment skills. The candidate should be comfortable coordinating stakeholder engagement, adapting to change, persuading others, thinking creatively, and leading teams. Good credit knowledge, agribusiness product awareness, and familiarity with agribusiness policies and guidelines are also expected.

Qualifications and working profile

Preference is for a bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies, with basic business knowledge, a customer service mindset, digital familiarity, and basic communication ability. The role also requires experience in a similar environment, openness to change, product and service knowledge, and relationship-building capability.
