About the Role and Company

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding construction team in Dublin. This role involves managing financial and commercial aspects throughout the project lifecycle—including cost management, contract negotiations, procurement, and oversight of subcontractor relationships—to ensure projects are delivered successfully and commercially viable.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tenders, analyze subcontractor suitability, and negotiate as well as finalize subcontract orders.
- Oversee financial and commercial management of subcontractors up to final account completion.
- Maintain accurate site records and control documentation; record site measurements meticulously.
- Assist in forecasting, target setting, and reconciling contract values.
- Prepare valuations and manage variation agreements, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Update and submit projected final accounts promptly.
- Collaborate with site management to address and challenge commercial matters effectively.
- Implement commercial strategies and safeguard the company's contractual entitlements.
- Participate in contract value reviews, maintaining an impartial perspective.
- Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities related to the projects.
- Develop knowledge of insurance policies and warranties applicable to contracts.
- Engage in cash flow management to support financial health.
- Support tendering activities as needed.
- Supervise and review work of Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
- Utilize clear verbal and written communication and leverage technology platforms.
- Demonstrate proficiency with the Standard Method of Measurement.
- Exhibit strong commercial insight, ownership, time management, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience in quantity surveying within the construction sector, specifically in managing costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Strong understanding of JCT contracts, subcontract purchasing, contract administration, and commercial risk management.
- Experience in conducting Contract Value Reviews (CVRs), forecasting, cost reporting, and managing cash flow.
- Effective negotiation skills with subcontractors and collaboration with project teams to meet commercial goals.
- Degree-level qualification with ongoing pursuit of professional accreditation such as CIOB membership.
- Completion of a 2-day safety appreciation course including contract and commercial awareness is required.
- Experience with Design & Build projects is beneficial but not mandatory.
Desirable Attributes
- Exposure to larger Design & Build contracts.
- Knowledge of claims handling and dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Familiarity with contract law and handling contracts over €15 million without direct responsibility.
- Experience managing traditional contracts and supervising assistant quantity surveyors, including approving Standard Method of Measurement work.
