Role Overview

As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Lead, you will manage and execute accurate payroll processing for multiple companies across provinces, ensuring full compliance with legislation and data security standards. This role demands a detail-oriented, service-focused mindset and flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team within our Shared Services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute precise, compliant payroll for all companies within the Scotia Investments Family, adhering to applicable laws and data protection protocols.
  • Manage employee program administration involving enrollments, updates, and terminations across payroll, pension, and benefits platforms.
  • Address queries related to payroll, pension, and benefits, supporting team leaders in optimal usage of systems and procedures.
  • Perform reconciliations, billing, remittances, and audits to verify payroll and benefits program integrity and compliance.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to facilitate smooth administration of payroll and benefit plans.
  • Partner with the People & Culture team in managing disability cases and attendance initiatives.
  • Assist with reporting and analytics related to People & Culture metrics and funding submissions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Possession of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is mandatory.
  • Diploma or degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, human resources, or related areas; equivalent education and experience accepted.
  • Additional certification such as CPHR or CEBS is advantageous.
  • Experience using Payworks or comparable payroll/HRIS software.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially proficiency in Excel.
  • Comfort working with the specifics of collective agreements.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a service-oriented approach.
  • Capability to prioritize assignments efficiently and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
