Role Overview
As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Lead, you will manage and execute accurate payroll processing for multiple companies across provinces, ensuring full compliance with legislation and data security standards. This role demands a detail-oriented, service-focused mindset and flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team within our Shared Services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute precise, compliant payroll for all companies within the Scotia Investments Family, adhering to applicable laws and data protection protocols.
- Manage employee program administration involving enrollments, updates, and terminations across payroll, pension, and benefits platforms.
- Address queries related to payroll, pension, and benefits, supporting team leaders in optimal usage of systems and procedures.
- Perform reconciliations, billing, remittances, and audits to verify payroll and benefits program integrity and compliance.
- Collaborate with external vendors to facilitate smooth administration of payroll and benefit plans.
- Partner with the People & Culture team in managing disability cases and attendance initiatives.
- Assist with reporting and analytics related to People & Culture metrics and funding submissions.
Qualifications & Skills
- Possession of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is mandatory.
- Diploma or degree in business administration, commerce, accounting, human resources, or related areas; equivalent education and experience accepted.
- Additional certification such as CPHR or CEBS is advantageous.
- Experience using Payworks or comparable payroll/HRIS software.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially proficiency in Excel.
- Comfort working with the specifics of collective agreements.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a service-oriented approach.
- Capability to prioritize assignments efficiently and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
