Job description
Overview
Guest Services, Inc., a premier hospitality management company and National Park Service concessionaire based in the United States, is seeking a full-time Boat Naturalist in Florida. This role involves conducting educational boat tours focused on marine mammals, birds, and ecological information, while assisting the Captain as the First Mate.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Captain as First Mate, including delivering the safety briefing before departure.
- Provide informative commentary to guests about the Everglades Park's natural history, including crocodiles, manatees, and bird species.
- Ensure passenger comfort and safety throughout the 90-minute boat tours.
- Prepare and clean the vessel before and after tours.
- Continuously update knowledge of local marine mammals, birds, and the Flamingo area ecology.
- Operate the cash register for some shifts as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of partial high school education; High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
- Background in natural sciences is advantageous.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills with a passion for educating diverse audiences about wildlife.
- Excellent customer service skills and a proactive approach to assisting guests and coworkers.
- Team-oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Familiarity with boating operations and experience on open water.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License and completion of the Florida Boater Safety Course.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to adhere to the company dress code and comply with pre-employment/random drug testing.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Frequent movement on foot within the work environment including bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching above shoulder height.
- Ability to read and write work-related materials in English.
- Clear speech and comprehensive listening skills to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers in English.
- Physical presence on-site is mandatory to perform all job responsibilities.
