Job Overview
The Microbiologist will deliver expert guidance on microbiology and hygiene, acting as the site authority to oversee testing processes and spearhead improvements in sanitation and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The role requires collaboration with manufacturing teams to not only assess microbial results but also promote positive changes through education and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive microbiological analyses in alignment with HACCP and quality standards.
- Manage and understand environmental monitoring programs effectively.
- Provide performance reports related to microbiology to quality assurance and production teams, fostering continuous enhancement.
- Educate team members on best practices in microbial control, including sanitation and cleaning procedures.
- Partner with manufacturing personnel and sanitation chemical suppliers to optimize cleaning results, costs, and efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to GMP by performing regular inspections following GMP audit documentation.
- Fulfill all compliance obligations relevant to the role.
- Develop, validate, and maintain microbial testing methods to guarantee precision and dependability.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures for microbiological testing and hygiene protocols.
- Investigate contamination events or non-compliance instances and implement corrective measures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups including production, QA, and R&D to resolve microbial-related issues.
- Maintain a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, managing risks, and reporting incidents using proper documentation for resolution.
Qualifications and Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in science, preferably in Microbiology.
- Demonstrable experience in beverage microbiology.
- Solid understanding of food safety systems such as HACCP.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC standards, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and manufacturing hygiene principles.
- Proficient in effective communication with aptitude for influencing and supporting key stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving ability with expertise in root cause analysis.
- Experience working within or leading cross-functional teams and adapting to dynamic production settings.
- Positive attitude with eagerness to learn and share best practices.
- Knowledge of SAP Quality Management (QM) module and AIB standards.
- Sanitation expertise and history of training and upskilling teams effectively.
Additional Information
- Work schedule: 5 days per week, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM including weekends.
- Weekend work is required with applicable penalty rates.
- Location: Swanbank, Queensland, Australia.
- Pay will be negotiated based on experience.
