Role Overview
In response to steady growth and an expanding project slate, Griffdon Engineering is seeking a skilled Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator to join their commercial team based either in Trim, County Meath, or Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon. This permanent position offers a prime opportunity for a commercially-driven construction professional to significantly contribute to securing and executing high-value contracts throughout Ireland and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and competitive tenders and cost estimates for electrical, utility, and infrastructure projects.
- Analyze tender documents, drawings, specifications, and client requirements thoroughly.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities.
- Solicit and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Formulate pricing strategies covering labor, plant, materials, and equipment.
- Identify risks, evaluate opportunities, and implement value engineering solutions.
- Participate in pre- and post-tender meetings with clients and design teams.
- Collaborate across departments including procurement, construction, and commercial teams throughout the tender process.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and cost benchmarks regularly.
- Assist in the smooth handover of contracts to project delivery teams.
- Support business development initiatives and foster client relationships.
- Monitor market trends, labor resources, material pricing, and industry developments.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of five years’ experience in estimating within sectors such as construction, electrical contracting, utilities, infrastructure, or M&E.
- In-depth knowledge of construction cost structures, commercial principles, and tendering practices.
- Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and project specifications.
- Strong numerical proficiency and analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail coupled with organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard estimating software tools.
- Effective communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
- Capability to manage multiple tender processes and deadlines concurrently.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with data centres, utility sectors, renewable energy, pharmaceutical, industrial, or sizable infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with NEC, FIDIC, JCT, or Public Works Contracts.
- Formal qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar disciplines.
- Previous leadership of estimating teams.
- Work exposure in Irish, UK, or broader European markets.
