Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time Building System Technician II to join our Enterprise Facilities team in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This team manages and maintains the organization's physical infrastructure and facilities to guarantee safe and efficient operation in alignment with internal policies and external regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain building systems including generator upkeep, preventative maintenance, and water treatment systems such as water softeners, hot water heating, and cooling towers.
- Ensure the upkeep of building and grounds to maintain safety, security, snow removal (on-call basis), and cleanliness standards.
- Perform life safety equipment testing and operation, including fire sprinkler and suppression systems, along with scheduling necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Undertake general departmental support tasks, reporting to maintenance personnel as needed.
- Assist with other related duties such as purchasing supplies, aiding Maintenance staff, and liaising with contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary education in relevant fields such as Heating & Cooling or Electrical systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Up to four years of experience operating computerized building systems and related equipment.
- Basic proficiency in computer applications like Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service capabilities.
- Certifications such as Fourth Class Stationary Engineer or Systems Maintenance Technician are advantageous.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Work Conditions and Additional Requirements
- Regular work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, located at 7 Wicklow St, St. John's.
- Participation in emergency after-hours on-call duties on a rotational basis (one week on/one week off or as schedules demand).
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is necessary.
- Physical demands include standing or walking for 40% of the time, ability to pull or push equipment weighing 500-600 pounds with suitable aids, and occasionally carrying loads of 35-45 pounds.
- Compliance with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification, including criminal record and employment background checks.

- Salary range from $46,500 to $53,300 per year.
