Team Overview
The TotalControl ATC simulator, used for training air traffic controllers, operates from two major simulators located in Auckland and Christchurch as well as four mobile simulators, all based at the Christchurch campus. Simulator Pilots and Controllers work across two teams—surveillance and towers—with dedicated team leaders, ensuring simulator availability from 7am to 7pm every day.
Role Summary
We are inviting applications for Simulator Pilots to join either the Tower or Surveillance simulator teams in Christchurch. Opportunities include casual, fixed-term, and permanent roles with flexible part-time or full-time schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Review training scripts and prepare the simulator before exercises.
- Operate simulated aircraft during training sessions ranging from 45 minutes to 3 hours.
- Simultaneously manage multiple aircraft while communicating with trainees using standardized aviation phraseology.
- Adjust flights dynamically while maintaining accuracy and situational awareness.
- Reset and prepare the simulator between exercises throughout the working day.
Working Hours
- Simulator training and operations occur daily between 7:00am and 7:00pm.
- Shifts are generally scheduled 8:30am to 5:00pm on weekdays, with some early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays required.
- Monthly rosters are provided by the second week prior to the upcoming month to ensure scheduling transparency.
Candidate Profile
- Possess flying experience with a Pilot Licence or background in Air Traffic Services.
- Demonstrate strong typing skills, keen attention to detail, and spatial awareness.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts across a seven-day roster.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) is beneficial but not mandatory.
