About the Role
We are searching for a Product Design Engineer to join Unum Aircraft Seating's expanding engineering team located in Crawley, West Sussex. Our mission is to revolutionize premium air travel through smart, adaptable, lie-flat aircraft seating designed for the ultimate passenger comfort and safety.
This role offers the chance to work on innovative aircraft seating products that integrate exceptional design with engineering excellence, contributing directly to redefining business class comfort.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop cutting-edge aircraft seating solutions from initial concept through to production readiness.
- Create comprehensive 3D CAD models and detailed technical drawings, primarily using SolidWorks.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are practical, robust, and can meet certification standards.
- Work alongside engineering, manufacturing, and certification teams to address and resolve production challenges.
- Manage product data and configuration control using PLM systems such as 3DX.
- Participate actively in design reviews and continuous improvement processes.
Requirements
- Degree in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven proficiency with CAD software, especially SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, and drawing creation.
- Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, material science, and manufacturing techniques.
- Strong interest in aircraft interiors, seating design, or engineered product development.
- Proactive attitude with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and adhere to project timelines.
- Bonus qualifications include experience in a manufacturing or regulated engineering environment, familiarity with PLM tools like 3DX, knowledge of FEA or simulation software, and prior exposure to aerospace interiors or seating design.
