Role overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is hiring an energetic and experienced Flow Coordinator to support the patient flow coordinator team across AMU, medicine, and medicine for older people.
The position focuses on keeping emergency patient movement organised and efficient so that patients receive a smooth journey through the department with minimal avoidable delays.

Main purpose of the role
This role is responsible for actively overseeing emergency patient flow from the point of arrival through to discharge or transfer. The aim is to support flow across the service, improve coordination, and reduce unnecessary delays.
Working pattern
This is a seven-day service role. Shifts are 12.5 hours long and include weekends and bank holidays.
Key requirements
The successful candidate should be confident working in a busy environment, able to handle multiple priorities, and comfortable collaborating with a multidisciplinary team while also working independently and escalating issues when required.

Essential criteria
- GCSE-level literacy and numeracy, or an equivalent standard.
- NVQ Level 3, diploma-level study, equivalent qualification, or relevant experience gained in the workplace.
- Confidence using multiple IT systems, including eCamis, Symphony, Whiteboard Site View, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness and ability to learn new digital tools and processes.
- Prepared to complete training on the job.
- Ability to improve and shape new processes to strengthen existing systems.
- Awareness of the factors that can disrupt patient flow within wards or clinical areas.
- Empathetic approach when handling and resolving enquiries.
