Correctional Officer

Role Overview

This position is for a Correctional Officer based in De Kalb, Mississippi. The role involves maintaining safety, order, and discipline within a penal institution while following established policies, regulations, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor inmate behavior and daily conduct to help stop disturbances and escape attempts.
• Check locks, bars, grills, doors, and gates for signs of tampering.
• Search inmates and cells for prohibited or contraband items.
• Supervise and direct inmates during work-related assignments.
• Patrol assigned areas for banned activities, rule violations, and signs of poor adjustment or behavior.
• Share observations and concerns with a supervisor.
• Use approved force or weapons when needed to preserve discipline and order.
• Escort inmates to and from the visiting area, medical unit, and religious services when required.
• Monitor jail entrances and screen visitors as needed.
• Draft written reports about inmate disturbances, injuries, or related incidents.

Eligibility and Requirements

• Applicant must be at least 21 years old.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays is necessary.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts is required.
• Good communication skills are essential.
• Must be able to pass a drug screening.
• Prior experience is preferred, though not mandatory.
