Role Overview
This position is for a Correctional Officer based in De Kalb, Mississippi. The role involves maintaining safety, order, and discipline within a penal institution while following established policies, regulations, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor inmate behavior and daily conduct to help stop disturbances and escape attempts.
- Check locks, bars, grills, doors, and gates for signs of tampering.
- Search inmates and cells for prohibited or contraband items.
- Supervise and direct inmates during work-related assignments.
- Patrol assigned areas for banned activities, rule violations, and signs of poor adjustment or behavior.
- Share observations and concerns with a supervisor.
- Use approved force or weapons when needed to preserve discipline and order.
- Escort inmates to and from the visiting area, medical unit, and religious services when required.
- Monitor jail entrances and screen visitors as needed.
- Draft written reports about inmate disturbances, injuries, or related incidents.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Applicant must be at least 21 years old.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays is necessary.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts is required.
- Good communication skills are essential.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening.
- Prior experience is preferred, though not mandatory.
