Combination Building Inspector

About the Role

SAFEbuilt is seeking an experienced Combination Building Inspector to join a nationwide team of over 1600 professionals committed to community development. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily on-site inspections of residential, commercial, and public building projects.
• Communicate complex technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the public.
• Review building plans and engineering calculations to verify compliance with relevant codes.
• Offer guidance on interpreting city, state, federal, construction standards, and applicable local ordinances.
• Keep detailed records documenting inspections, test findings, and related information.
• Enter inspection details accurately into permitting software systems.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of local building codes and contemporary construction methods.
• Minimum of three years’ experience interpreting codes and providing compliant solutions in field conditions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, contractors, government officials, and the general public.
• Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Demonstrated time management, organization, and precision in work.
• Capacity to take initiative and exercise significant independent judgment.
• Ability to handle multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
• Up-to-date familiarity with various editions of the International Building Codes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and related computer applications.

Certifications and Licensing

• Mandatory ICC Inspector certifications across multiple trades.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Regular walking, standing, climbing ladders/scaffolding, bending, stooping, crawling, and kneeling during inspections.
• Ability to access elevated or confined spaces such as roofs, attics, and crawl spaces.
• Occasional lifting and transporting of items weighing 25–50 pounds, including tools and equipment.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read plans and detect construction details.
• Hearing adequate for communication in noisy construction environments.
• Manual dexterity to operate inspection tools and technology such as computers and tablets.
• Work environments encompass both office settings and outdoor construction sites subject to varying weather and conditions.
• Frequent travel by car between inspection points and offices within the service region.
