Job description

About the role

This permanent Workday Payroll Consultant position is part of a hybrid work model and is based primarily in Toronto, Ontario, with consideration for several other Canadian office locations. The role is tied to a broader Human Resources Transformation practice and focuses on delivering payroll solutions within large-scale Workday HCM programs.

Our purpose

The organization aims to create meaningful impact by helping people, businesses, communities, and countries grow in a sustainable way. Its work is centered on strengthening confidence, supporting fair institutions, and contributing positively to Canadian society as a major Canadian-owned professional services firm.

What you will do

In this position, you will help deliver full payroll implementations and support Workday HCM transformation projects. You will work with functional and technical specialists across HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Integrations, and Data Conversion to build payroll solutions that are scalable and aligned with client goals.

  • Work directly with client payroll, HR, and finance teams to gather business needs, legal requirements, and operational workflows.
  • Lead collaborative sessions to shape and configure Workday Payroll solutions that fit business expectations and industry practices.
  • Coordinate with related workstreams to ensure payroll connects properly with Time, Absence, Benefits, and downstream finance systems.
  • Spot risks, issues, and dependencies early, then work with the Project Manager to escalate and resolve them while keeping the project on track.
  • Balance configuration, advisory work, troubleshooting, and solution design in a dynamic client-facing setting.

Some travel to client locations may be needed depending on project demand.

About the team

The Human Resources Transformation practice in Canada is a large and expanding group of consultants across the country, supported by global HR transformation expertise. The team focuses on multiple HR disciplines and places strong emphasis on training, certifications, mentorship, and firm methodologies.

What you need

You should bring a solid foundation in Canadian payroll operations, along with the ability to convert complex payroll requirements into effective system solutions.

  • At least 3 years of practical experience in Canadian payroll, including data handling, reconciliation, and compliance work.
  • Good understanding of HR, payroll, and benefits data models, related business processes, and how systems affect each other.
  • A Canadian Payroll Association designation such as PCP or CPM, or active progress toward one.
  • Prior exposure to Workday Payroll or a similar cloud payroll platform is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial payroll legislation, reporting obligations, and compliance rules.
  • Ability to analyze complex payroll cases and translate them into accurate configurations and process designs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and risk-assessment skills in a client environment.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for explaining technical ideas to business users.
  • Strong organization and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-moving project environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and ongoing improvement.

Additional requirements

For positions based in Quebec, fluency in both French and English is required because the role involves working with national and global clients and project teams.

Total rewards

The annual salary range for this role is $58,000 to $102,000. Eligible employees may also take part in a bonus program. The compensation approach is designed to be competitive and benchmarked regularly against comparable roles.

Additional rewards may include paid vacation, mental health support benefits valued at $4,000 per year, a $1,300 flexible benefit spending account, company-wide closure days referred to as Deloitte Days, learning days called Development and Innovation Days, flexible work arrangements, and a hybrid work structure.

The employer welcomes candidates from all qualified backgrounds and encourages applications from people across the full diversity of communities in Canada, including people with disabilities, Indigenous candidates, and Black candidates. Accommodation requests are supported during the recruitment process through designated contact channels.
