Role Overview
This 12-month payroll specialist assignment is an internal secondment within Deloitte Canada. The role supports payroll operations for Canadian employees and requires strong expertise in large, multi-jurisdiction payroll environments. You will help ensure payroll is processed accurately, compliantly, and on time, while also handling complex questions, escalations, reporting, and ongoing process improvements.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end payroll processing for Canadian employees.
- Handle case management activity and resolve complex payroll questions and escalations.
- Review gross-to-net results, complete audits, and perform balancing activities.
- Work with internal and external partners to investigate and resolve payroll issues.
- Prepare deductions, remittances, and statutory submissions.
- Support year-end payroll work, including T4 preparation and reconciliations.
- Compile reports for provincial payroll requirements.
- Analyze bi-weekly payroll and general ledger data.
- Manage payroll requirements specific to Quebec.
- Coach and support junior team members.
- Contribute to improvements in payroll processes and controls.
About the Team
The team is responsible for the full administration and processing of Deloitte Canada’s national payroll. The position plays a senior part in delivering timely and accurate payroll services, along with advanced analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement support for employees and business units across the country.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Canadian Payroll Association certification (PCP or CPM), or active progress toward completion.
- At least 5 years of experience in a large payroll environment spanning multiple jurisdictions, including complex scenarios and escalations.
- Highly organized, with the ability to balance several priorities in a fast-moving setting.
- Advanced working knowledge of PeopleSoft or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform.
- Strong analytical thinking, careful attention to detail, and a commitment to compliance and process enhancement.
- French and English fluency is required because of the national scope of the role.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $58,000 to $96,000. Bonus participation may also be available. Additional rewards mentioned for this role include paid vacation, $4,000 per year in mental health support benefits, a $1,300 flexible benefits spending account, firm-wide closure days known as Deloitte Days, dedicated learning days called Development and Innovation Days, flexible working arrangements, and a hybrid work structure.
