Job description

Role overview

The Victims of Crime Community Response (VOCCR) model brings together existing local services and support already available in the region. It acts as an initial triage point and a single contact pathway for victims and first responders, helping victims of crime connect with suitable services, emotional support, practical help, brokerage, and financial assistance. The VOCCR program handles individual referrals in Logan, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Townsville, and Cairns.

In this role, you will provide immediate assistance to help meet the urgent needs of victims and their families in the days after a violent crime.

Key responsibilities

  • Show cultural capability, or a clear commitment to building it, to support an inclusive workplace aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019 and departmental work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Assess referrals for eligible victims of crime and their immediate family members, then deliver prompt, trauma-informed help through triage, brokerage, and referrals to specialist services.
  • Arrange referrals for longer-term recovery support services.
  • Coordinate priority assistance for victims of crime, while keeping accurate records and completing delegated duties as needed.
  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies and non-government organisations that support victims of crime.
  • Respond with empathy and effectiveness to victims of crime, while promoting their rights and needs and helping them access available services.
  • Look for ways to improve service delivery by sharing ideas, seeking suggestions, and using data to strengthen outcomes.
  • Take part in stakeholder networks and meetings to support program delivery and raise awareness of Victim Assist.
  • Gather data and share feedback on how well the Victims of Crime Community Response program is working.
