Job description

Role overview

Join the South East Operations team at Moggill in a practical position focused on helping manage and safeguard Queensland’s native wildlife. This role supports the everyday work of the team and contributes to the wider Southern Wildlife Operations unit.

The work is meaningful, demanding, and often complex. It involves balancing environmental protection, public interaction, and regulatory responsibilities while contributing to outcomes that matter for Queensland.

Why consider this role

This position offers the chance to build your skills while making a real contribution to the protection of native flora and fauna. You will work alongside experienced leaders who will support your development in both compliance work and animal handling, through learning in the classroom and on the job.

The work is varied, with no two days the same. Duties can involve regulatory compliance and managing interactions between people and animals, and team members regularly travel to assist colleagues across the Southern Wildlife Operations area.

Team focus

The Southern Wildlife Operations team works across South-East Queensland to conserve and protect native and threatened wildlife and their habitats. Its work centres on:

  • Administering Nature Conservation Act requirements to support wildlife compliance and enforcement.
  • Helping people and wildlife interact safely.
  • Working with the community to encourage positive relationships between people and wildlife.
  • Using applied research to help develop new and practical wildlife management approaches.

About you

We are looking for someone who is self-driven, enthusiastic, and comfortable contributing within a small, busy, high-performing team. Success in this role means helping the team perform well in a challenging environment.

You should be a confident communicator who can deal respectfully and calmly with a wide range of people, including in difficult situations, and who can communicate clearly in both spoken and written form.

You will need regulatory compliance capability, or the ability to build it quickly, to support work under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. Strong animal handling and husbandry ability is also important, or you should be able to develop those skills quickly.
