Role overview
ELM Utility Services is hiring a Utility Locate Technician for the Bellingham, Washington area. The company has a national workforce of more than 1,400 people and provides utility-marking services that help protect gas, electric, and communication infrastructure during excavation work. This role uses LaunchPoint software and is offered at a starting rate of $25.50 to $30.00 per hour, based on experience.
Compensation and rewards

Responsibilities
- Work independently outdoors, using the company vehicle as a mobile office, and complete a daily route of locate requests.
- Identify and mark underground utilities carefully, safely, and efficiently with marking paint, flags, and occasionally whiskers.
- Use the mobile work system to receive and manage daily assignments.
Requirements
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record review, and background check.
- This is a safety-sensitive DOT role that must follow all applicable federal Department of Transportation rules.
- Marijuana use, whether medical or recreational, is not permitted for this position.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- A valid passport or an enhanced driver’s license is required for occasional work-related travel across the Canadian border.
