Job description

Overview

Fusion5 is seeking a UX/UI Designer who is passionate about shaping how people experience digital products and commerce platforms. Based in Nelson, New Zealand, this full-time onsite role sits at the crossroads of design, technology, and customer insight. You will collaborate with developers, consultants, ecommerce strategists, and clients to build experiences that are intuitive, visually engaging, and designed to perform.

This is a hands-on role from the earliest stages of a project. You will help translate client needs into structured design briefs, facilitate workshops, develop concepts and prototypes, and present your ideas with clarity and confidence. The work will span branding, website enhancements, full rebuilds, and Shopify migrations, meaning each engagement will bring fresh challenges and variety.

What you will do

  • Interpret client needs into clear design briefs and take ownership of the design journey from start to finish across branding, websites, and Shopify migration work.
  • Create customer flows, journey maps, wireframes, sitemaps, prioritisation charts, content structures, and interactive high-fidelity prototypes that fit project goals and budget constraints.
  • Develop mood boards and visual concept decks that define the direction before detailed design begins.
  • Produce attractive, consistent, and conversion-focused interfaces that remain faithful to each client’s brand.
  • Use research and data insights to guide and refine UX/UI decisions over time.
  • Present ideas and completed designs with strong reasoning, helping clients choose the most suitable solution.
  • Facilitate UX/UI workshops internally and with clients or external partners.
  • Refine work based on feedback from clients and stakeholders to achieve strong final outcomes.
  • Partner with the Ecommerce Strategist on roadmap planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with Project Managers to estimate effort, stay within approved budgets, and alert the team when scope changes.
  • Prepare and maintain client-facing design documentation and support content needs where required.
  • Help improve Fusion5’s design framework over time.
  • Keep files, naming structures, and asset libraries organised.
  • Support sales proposals, provide client training, and assist the wider team when needed.
  • Track billable and non-billable time accurately and raise risks early.

Working style and expectations

You should be a trusted team player who listens carefully, communicates clearly, and follows through on commitments. The role calls for someone who can make sound decisions even when all the information is not yet available, identify risks early, and stay proactive rather than waiting to be asked. A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and a strong user focus are essential from the first workshop through to final delivery.

What you bring

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a comparable UX/UI design role.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma and Miro.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Good understanding of interaction design, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Experience delivering design work in structured project environments.
  • Strong familiarity with Shopify and ecommerce.
  • Interest in continued growth, including the use of AI-assisted design tools.

Benefits and culture

Fusion5 offers the chance to help shape a growing practice with the support of an established trans-Tasman organisation. The company values people who care about outcomes, not only outputs, and describes its culture as diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking.

  • Supportive, collaborative team culture.
  • Flexible working arrangements with a genuine emphasis on work-life balance.
  • Birthday leave, volunteer days, and regular social activities.
  • Clear development pathways and room to grow with the practice.

Additional information

Fusion5’s “Go Beyond” approach reflects its combination of solutions, services, and capabilities that help clients turn business vision into reality, with AI used as a strategic driver for transformation.
