UI/UX Shopify Designer - Commerce

Role Overview

Fusion5 is hiring a UX/UI Designer in Christchurch to work at the point where design, technology, and customer understanding meet. The role focuses on creating experiences that are intuitive, visually strong, and effective for ecommerce clients, with a particular emphasis on branding, website improvements, rebuilds, and Shopify migrations.

You will be involved from the earliest stages of a project, helping translate client needs into practical design direction, facilitating workshops, developing concepts, creating prototypes, and confidently presenting recommendations. This is a hands-on role with variety across different client engagements, so each project will bring a different challenge.

Key Work Areas

• Partner with strategy, ecommerce, delivery, developers, consultants, and clients to lift the quality of design outcomes.
• Translate client input into clear briefs and manage the design journey from start to finish across branding, websites, and Shopify migration work.
• Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, site maps, priority charts, content structures, and interactive high-fidelity prototypes aligned to goals and budget.
• Prepare mood boards and visual concept presentations that communicate the design direction before production begins.
• Build attractive, consistent, conversion-focused interfaces that reflect each client’s brand.
• Use data and insight to guide ongoing UX and UI improvements.
• Present concepts and final outputs with clarity, helping clients choose the best solution and understand the reasoning behind it.
• Facilitate UX/UI workshops internally and with clients or external partners.
• Refine work based on feedback from clients and stakeholders to achieve strong final results.
• Work closely with the Ecommerce Strategist on strategic initiatives and client roadmaps.
• Coordinate with Project Managers to estimate effort, stay within approved budgets, and escalate scope changes early.
• Maintain design documentation for clients and provide content support where required.
• Help improve Fusion5’s design framework over time.
• Keep files, naming conventions, and assets well organised.
• Support sales proposals, deliver client training, and assist the wider team when needed.
• Record billable and non-billable time accurately and raise risks promptly.

The role also suits someone who learns quickly, enjoys solving unfamiliar problems, collaborates well with others, and always keeps the end user in focus.

• 3 to 5 years of experience in a comparable UX/UI design role.
• Strong skills in Figma and Miro.
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
• Good understanding of interaction design, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
• Experience delivering design work in structured project environments.
• Strong familiarity with Shopify and ecommerce.
• Interest in continued learning, including the use of AI-assisted design tools.
