Position Summary
The Traffic Control Flagger is responsible for managing and directing the flow of traffic around construction sites, road maintenance areas, and other work zones. This role involves the setup and dismantling of traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to ensure the safety of both workers and the public. The Flagger will utilize hand signals, signs, and other equipment to communicate with motorists and guide them safely through designated areas. The position demands a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, and the capacity to remain standing for extended periods.
Essential Functions
- Deploy and retrieve signs, cones, and other traffic control equipment around work zones to redirect traffic.
- Effectively manage traffic movement using stop/slow paddles.
- Maintain clear and efficient communication with team members via two-way radios.
- Regularly stand and walk, with the ability to reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours daily.
- Capability to lift, transport, push, pull, and move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to and from various job sites.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Work in environments regularly exposed to outdoor weather, moving equipment and machinery, traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
- The typical work environment noise level ranges from moderate to loud.
- Strictly adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by management.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Successfully pass a background investigation, including a review of motor vehicle records.
- Pass a drug screening and meet federal DOT requirements.
- Wear required safety gear, including steel-toed work boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, and a high-visibility vest.
- Proficiency in operating a 2-way radio.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work in varied weather conditions and traffic environments.
- Communicate effectively with contractors and internal teams, providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
- Maintain excellent attendance, possess reliable transportation, and exhibit a strong work ethic.
- Successfully complete the ATSSA Flagger training program and company-provided Defensive Driver training.
- Be prepared to travel statewide, potentially including overnight stays, and work nights and weekends as project demands dictate.
- Must be available for a rotating on-call schedule.
