Role overview
This contract role is for a Tongan bilingual specialist who can support remote language work at an hourly rate of $45 to $95. The assignment calls for about 10 to 40 hours each week and is based remotely for work connected to New Zealand.
Core work
- Convert Tongan audio and video into clear written transcripts, including accurate time markers.
- Examine speaker emotion and purpose across different situations, then describe those nuances clearly.
- Check transcripts for grammar, readability, and smooth language use in both Tongan and English.
- Explain idiomatic or difficult Tongan words and phrases in a way that non-native readers can understand.
- Share detailed observations about wording, tone, and subtle linguistic meaning in the material.
- Work with project coordinators to keep output timely and of high quality.
- Support improvement of AI language models through specialized language analysis and related tasks.
What you need
- Near-native or native command of both Tongan and English, with strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience handling professional audio/video transcription and timestamping.
- Ability to notice emotional cues, speaker intent, and tonal shifts in language content.
- Strong command of Tongan grammar, vocabulary, idioms, and cultural background.
- A background in linguistics, translation, localization, or similar language services is an advantage.
- Capability to produce organized, detailed linguistic analysis for complex language tasks.
