Role overview
The County of Elgin is hiring a Temporary Regular Part-time Recreationist for Bobier Villa. Bobier Villa is a 57-bed long-term care home located in Dutton, within the Municipality of Dutton/Dunwich, about 20 minutes west of London, Ontario. The facility provides around-the-clock nursing support, private and basic accommodations, comfortable seating areas, extensive gardens, a large water feature, and gazebos. Whitelock Place is used as a shared space for residents, families, and visitors, and it hosts a broad range of recreational and spiritual activities in a homelike setting.

Pay: $27.66 to $28.09 per hour, as outlined in the collective agreement

What the role involves
In this position, you will design, arrange, and run both group and one-on-one programs for residents. You will also work in line with referrals or directions authorized by the Medical Director and/or qualified therapists. The role may require coordination with outside agencies, fellow recreationists, and professional bodies to support the development of the profession. Careful attention to detail is essential because the job includes documenting resident progress, setting program priorities, building schedules, and evaluating programs.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or a closely related discipline from a college or university. The role also calls for the ability to manage physically demanding tasks and a solid understanding of Peterson-Gunn theory of Activation/Recreation. Experience of 1 to 3 years in a geriatric setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is expected.
Compensation and employee support
Employees receive competitive pay plus 14% paid in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay with each pay. If enrolled in the OMERS Pension Plan, the in-lieu-of-benefits amount decreases to 9%. Additional support includes the Employee & Family Assistance Program through Homewood Health. The organization also offers flexible scheduling through the Staff Schedule Care app, including shift swaps and shift giveaways.
Conditions of employment
To begin employment, candidates must provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to the County of Elgin, as well as satisfactory documentation for 2-step tuberculosis (TB) screening.
