Role overview
County of Elgin is hiring a temporary part-time weekend Personal Support Worker for Elgin Manor, a 90-bed long-term care home in Southwold Township, only a short drive from St. Thomas, Ontario. The home includes recreation rooms, seating areas, television lounges, outdoor patio spaces, and walking paths in a peaceful rural environment.
Schedule and pay
This position is limited to weekend coverage. Shifts are 8 hours long and may fall on day, afternoon, or night schedules between Friday at 10:00 p.m. and Monday at 6:00 a.m. There is no guaranteed number of hours. Pay is $30.87 to $31.30 per hour in line with the collective agreement.
What the role involves
As a certified PSW, you will support residents through daily care and contribute to a respectful, safe, and collaborative care environment. The work follows established routines and is focused on preserving dignity and quality of life.
Key duties
- Deliver hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and transfers
- Help residents with meals and nutrition-related support
- Keep resident rooms and shared areas clean and orderly
- Carry out minor treatments and note relevant health observations
- Answer call bells promptly and with compassion
- Take part in care planning by completing daily reports and documentation
- Contribute to care that is inclusive, respectful, and equitable
- Handle other related duties as needed
Required qualifications and knowledge
Applicants must have completed a Personal Support Worker certificate program from a recognized post-secondary institution. You should also be open to ongoing learning and additional training in the PSW field through in-services and similar opportunities. Familiarity with health and safety procedures, resident rights, the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and PointClickCare is expected. A strong commitment to safe, efficient care that meets residents’ personal needs is essential.
Employment conditions
- A police record check with vulnerable sector clearance must be successfully completed
- Satisfactory tuberculosis screening documents are required
