Technical Manager

Role overview

Oji Fibre Solutions Packaging is seeking a Technical Manager for its Packaging Northern site in Mangere Bridge, Auckland. The business is a major New Zealand packaging manufacturer and supplier, serving food, primary produce, industrial, and grocery customers across the country. Globally, Oji is the world’s fifth-largest pulp and paper company, with 31,000 employees and annual sales of more than USD 13 billion.

In this position, you will report to the Facility Manager at a large Auckland plant operating around the clock. You will oversee four direct reports and take ownership of the site’s quality assurance, food safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage external audits for the site.
• Administer and maintain GMP and HACCP systems in line with compliance requirements.
• Lead the rollout and ongoing improvement of quality and food safety systems and standards such as ISO 9001 and FSSC22000.
• Ensure management systems are properly documented, maintained, and followed.
• Drive improvements in customer complaints handling and investigate non-conformance issues.
• Apply continuous improvement methods, including LEAN Six Sigma and root cause analysis.
• Lead, guide, and develop the team reporting into this role.

Required background and capability

• Strong experience in QA and compliance.
• Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing environments, ideally within FMCG, packaging, or food quality.
• Statistical quality qualifications.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Ability to influence and communicate effectively with colleagues across sales, operations, and supply chain.
• Well-developed leadership and coaching ability.
• Excellent time management, planning, and coordination skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.

This is a hands-on and visible leadership role suited to someone who is comfortable getting involved directly and driving performance improvements at the site.
