About the Opportunity
The University of Auckland is seeking a motivated Study Abroad Lead to inspire and guide students in pursuing global learning experiences through exchange and study abroad programs. This pivotal role focuses on connecting with the on-campus student community, fostering enthusiasm and aspiration for international study as a key component of a university education. It's a leadership position centered on internal marketing, combining team management, operational execution, and student engagement. Reporting to the Associate Director of Global Partnerships and Development, you will oversee a team of approximately eight staff members, including full-time, part-time, and casual employees. You will collaborate closely with various faculties and central departments to implement student-focused marketing initiatives, enhance the skills of colleagues, and ensure a unified and impactful promotion of study abroad opportunities across the university.
This is a dynamic period to join the University of Auckland, as the institution is actively developing its updated Learning Abroad Plan. This role offers a significant opportunity to incorporate student feedback and contribute to the design of high-value international program offerings. A strong emphasis will be placed on process enhancement, where you will play a crucial role in refining, improving, and implementing effective processes that support exceptional student experiences and sustainable program delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a diverse team in the delivery of study abroad and exchange activities.
- Execute student-focused marketing strategies across digital and on-campus channels.
- Cultivate international partnerships to promote and enhance student mobility.
- Spearhead process improvement initiatives to boost efficiency, quality, and consistency.
- Train faculty staff to effectively promote study abroad opportunities.
- Engage directly with students to promote global study experiences.
About You
You are a people-oriented leader with a robust background in marketing, preferably with a focus on student or audience engagement, and you thrive on face-to-face interaction. You possess experience in leading teams focused on student mobility or exchange programs and understand how to captivate students, generate excitement, and articulate global opportunities in ways that resonate with diverse student populations. You have experience within the tertiary education sector or a similarly complex organizational setting, and you are adept at balancing operational delivery with creativity, people management, and continuous improvement. You enjoy refining processes and collaborating with students and colleagues to co-create meaningful, high-value international learning experiences. You are comfortable operating in both digital and in-person environments and would welcome the opportunity to represent the University both locally and internationally.
We Are Seeking
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, with a preference for student, audience, or engagement-focused roles.
- A minimum of three years of experience leading a team with a focus on student mobility and exchange.
- At least five years of experience within the tertiary education sector or a large, complex organization.
- Proven ability to contribute to process improvement or service redesign projects.
- A solid understanding of digital marketing and its role in student engagement.
- Availability and willingness to travel internationally for role-related purposes.
