Job description
Role overview
This senior leadership opportunity is for a seasoned audit professional who will create and expand a global internal audit function in a fast-growing, technology-focused business. The role starts with broad independence and ownership, as the successful candidate will establish the audit structure from the beginning and help strengthen governance, risk management, and internal controls across a complex digital operation. The position reports to the Audit Committee and has a dotted reporting line to the CFO, providing independent oversight of risk and compliance. It also requires close collaboration with executive and functional leaders, with the long-term potential to build a dedicated internal audit team as the company scales.
Key accountabilities
- Build and maintain an enterprise risk assessment approach, including a risk heat map that is updated regularly and shared with senior leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Prepare and run a risk-driven annual internal audit program that reflects business priorities, regulatory obligations, and emerging risk themes.
- Carry out operational, financial, and compliance audits across the organization while aligning work with internal control frameworks and accepted industry practices.
- Work alongside Legal, Compliance, and external auditors to coordinate audits, investigations, and reporting while avoiding unnecessary duplication.
- Deliver audit conclusions, remediation progress, and risk observations to executives and the Audit Committee.
- Track remediation actions, confirm that findings are resolved, and verify that control enhancements remain effective over time.
- Create and document audit policies, methods, and governance processes that can support future growth.
- Advise senior leadership on enterprise risk, strategic initiatives, and changing regulatory expectations.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a similar discipline is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- At least 15 years of experience in internal audit, external audit, or enterprise risk management, including roughly 3 to 5+ years in a senior leadership capacity.
- Professional certification is mandatory, such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or an equivalent credential.
- Strong knowledge of control frameworks such as COSO and COBIT, along with SOX 404 compliance requirements.
- Experience in high-volume transaction settings and/or publicly listed companies is preferred.
- Prior exposure to the technology sector is strongly preferred.
- Proven success in creating audit functions, defining methodologies, and working autonomously in complex environments.
- Excellent analytical ability, communication skills, stakeholder management, and project leadership capability.
- Experience with audit software, data analytics, and risk assessment methods is considered an advantage.
Benefits
- Competitive fixed pay with eligibility for performance-based bonus.
- Equity participation in the business.
- Annual compensation range of $249,000 to $316,000, including bonus.
- The chance to establish and scale an internal audit function from the ground up.
- Strong visibility with executive leadership and direct interaction with the Audit Committee.
- Remote-first setup with a globally distributed team and flexible work arrangements.
- Opportunity to influence enterprise risk strategy in a rapidly growing organization.
